Update:
He was told to just buy a bus ticket to come meet me, and he followed the advice. So then no matter what else I had going on, I felt like I should at least go out. But I was the one who messaged him ;) though it was honestly because I wanted to visit my friend in Montréal. I thought he was great, and he apparently did too bc he proposed as close to the first date as he could swing. And now I'm living in Montréal. Ah, life...
