JWed Co-Founder Finds His Soulmate on...JWed!

Devorah from London & Derek from New York

Match #: 3761 & 3762

I was living in Flatbush, New York. Devorah was living in London, U.K.

While a co-founder of JWed.com (what had then been Frumster.com), I had since left, taking up the position of Director of Marketing at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services in New York.

Recently divorced, I joined the very service I co-created with Ben Rabizadeh.

I had no intention of leaving the U.S. except maybe for Israel, or so I thought…

I actually created my JWed profile more out of curiosity - but I was immediately taken by one specific profile - to whom I initiated a message. Her profile was full of humor, wit and, refreshing personal reflection, and her photo one of radiating warmth.

Within 24 hours, I received a response from Devorah, a single parent, and we began some meaningful communications.

However, shortly thereafter, I just felt I needed a break and self-suspended my JWed profile.

Imagine my surprise when a few days later Devorah sent me a message to my work email!
Devorah had (very fortunately) tracked me down, knowing by then my place of work.
The subject line of her email was “Either You Will Think I Am Desperate, or Just a Tenacious Woman!”

It was a bold move, she was anything but desperate - and thank G-d, I would be eternally grateful!

And so began our further communications, then graduating to the world of WhatsApp and after a few weeks, I booked my flight to London-Heathrow for a Shabbat/weekend trip!

Given I had lived and studied in London years back, I did fortunately know some people, who graciously hosted me for Shabbat and Devorah as a guest for the accompanying meals.

And the rest is history :)

Well, not SO easy...

It was back and forth by both of us for a number of months. Devorah flew to New York 3 times, and I flew back to London another 4 times. And together, Virgin Atlantic and United accrued more profits.

But the biggest ROI (return on investment) – was B”H “us!”

Push came to shove and the dynamics at play meant that I would have to leave New York for London. Then again, with an ever-abundance of fish and chips, no shortage of rain year-round and most importantly, ever more nearer to Israel - it was not such a sacrifice :)

Eight months later we were engaged and 3 months from our engagement, we were B”H married in London.

Our story is reflective of the much wider success for so many Jewish singles on JWed. That is, by far the majority of the 4,100+ JWed marriages so far, have been between two people out-of-city, state or country.

JWed truly enables commitment-minded Jewish singles, to not just find the best person locally – but your true zivug, however near or far they may be!
